Subsidies for
solar installations
in Switzerland

The federal government supports the expansion of photovoltaics with the one-time payment (OTP). This directly reduces your investment costs and makes solar energy economically attractive.

One-time payment (OTP)

What is the one-time payment?

The one-time payment is the main federal subsidy for photovoltaic installations in Switzerland. It is provided by the Confederation and managed by Pronovo.

You receive the payment once after the installation and registration of your system — no annual application, no bureaucratic burden.

KLEIV

Small one-time payment

For smaller installations — most commonly used for private detached houses.

Ideal for private homeowners

GREIV

Large one-time payment

For larger installations — e.g. apartment buildings or commercial properties.

Subsidy overview

How much is the subsidy?

The subsidy is typically CHF 300–400 per kWp of installed capacity. The larger the installation, the higher the amount.

Additional support

Cantonal subsidy programmes

In addition to federal support, many cantons offer additional programmes. The available subsidies differ from canton to canton.

Process

How do I get the subsidy?

1

Installation

Have the photovoltaic system installed by a certified installer.

2

Registration

Register the system with Pronovo (pronovo.ch) — the installer often handles this for you.

3

Review

The relevant authorities review the installation and documentation.

4

OTP payment

The one-time payment is usually made a few months after registration.

Calculation example

Example for a detached house

Many detached houses install a system of 8–10 kWp, producing approximately 8,000–10,000 kWh of electricity per year.

Profitability

Is a solar installation worth it despite the investment costs?

Thanks to government subsidies and rising electricity prices, a solar installation is worthwhile for many Swiss households. Most systems pay for themselves within 10–15 years with a lifespan of 25–30 years.

The actual profitability depends on the following factors:

Household electricity consumption

Self-consumption rate

Solar installation size

Electricity price trends
